Aloha all,

Well tonights a big night as I will be playing Hawaii and it will be my first 5 unit play for the season. Now I know about all the stats, trends, past reports, last weeks performances, but tonight I'm banking on different information, I think priveleged to us here on this beautiful rock of ours that I want to pass on to the not so informed as my way of saying Aloha.

First off lets take that dreadful Hangover issue that we all know is a major factor in sports betting. This was a big upset for the UNLV program, so much that John Robinson called the biggest or at least one of the biggest wins in schools history. They also feel that UNLV has turned the corner as far as their football program is concerned. PLease, I think you should at least win your conference in consecutive or at least twice in three years to be considering turning the corner, but hey thats just me.

Next, if you'll worrying about the Warriors being totally devastated by their lost to USC, then don't be. All attitudes about that game are in good and positive spirits. Yes, they are alittle disappointed as any big underdog should be, but their are just to many positives to take from that game for the upstart Warriors.

Next, for those of you worried about all the traveling these Warriors had to do just to get to this game, well not to worry cause they did not leave the mainland yet. They stayed in Ontario, Calif. where they practiced and recouperated for this game.

Next, the Warriors will be getting two of their top defensive lineman back for this game. Top Pro prospect DE Travis Laboy , and DT and leader of the defensive line before injury last year ended season, Lui Fuga, will be making the trip up to Las Wages, oh excuse me, Las Vegas. They will definately bring alot of motivation and enthusiasm, not to mention talent and leadership to the defense.

Lastly, and one which I will be considering a big factor is the lack of home field advantage by the UNLV squad on their own home field. What many people aren't aware of is the fact that Las Vegas is considered to be a second home for us Hawaiians. In fact we have roughly over 300,000 transplanted locals who moved up there. Secondly, when we get a needed vacation from our plantation jobs, or we need a break from surfing all day, where do you think we head to? Thats right, LAS VEGAS. In fact so many Hawaiians travel their year round and spend so much money that the State of Hawaii is trying to pass legalized gambling here just to keep this local revenue from leaving our shores. Anyways, tonight it is expected that there will be about 30,000 fans in the stands tonight. Well you can bank on at least half of them being Warrior fans, both consisting of vacationers to residents. We know that this is a special Warrior team we have, especially with local talent and Heisman hopeful Timmy Chang at the controls, and not to mention Coach June Jones who we all adore. Tonight I can guarantee you that when you watch the game on TV, you gonna see an overwhelming amount of Ti leaves being waved in the air. (Ti Leaves chases away bad spirits and brings good luck). So home field not an issue here, and thats all I need to feel comfortable with laying the wood with the Warriors.

Aloha to all and GL Wherever you heart and head tells you to follow. Lets all have fun and enjoy life, cause only got one shot at it. Co-Captain.

On the sidelines, I'll take June Jones over John Robinson any day. Hawaii scores 40+ tonight, and I don't think UNLV gets over 30.

Aloha Gleen, nice to see ya again.

I been seeing alot of people asking about how has the Warriors been handling beeing in the mainland so far.

Well, the Warriors stayed at Ontario, Calif. where they practiced and rested for this game. Its alot more slower than the pace that the boys are used to back in the islands, but one which they needed to get their focus back after USC. It seems to be working as I got a report that alot of them are very restless and can't wait to this game on the road. Many are referring this trip as feeling not like a road trip, but more like camp. Still, Jones has them focused and they know that they are here to do business.

note: alittle extra motivation is the fact that Hawaii lost at home to UNLV in the last match at Aloha Stadium, so payback in order.
Also seeing as how UNLV upset no. 14 Wisconsin, the Warriors are taking it very seriously and looking forward to this game as all business. Coach Jones eliminated any chance of distractions for alot of his guys who have never been to Las Vegas, and let them know this is a big game and that they need to be ready to show everyone that they can play ball with anyone.

Looking also for the defense to be stepping things up especially with defense leaders Laboy and Fuga joining them on this road trip.

Having a short week to prepare for the Warriors style offense is not a good situation. This type of offense uses everyone on the field, which means that everyone on defense must play defense. Even with that said, you must have at least a balanced type of defense and one where its players will be up to running around on every single snap. At Wisconsin, you could almost guarantee that you could read run first and assume pass on passing situations. Not so with the type of offense the Warriors run, you won't be sure when and what is coming your way. The only thing that you can guarantee yourself is that the bows will throw and throw alot. Sometimes ridiculous amounts of times, but thats what Jones wants and thats what Jone's schemes call for. You fall asleep, your done. He's looking for that opening. I don't feel that this UNLV squad after facing a Wisconsin type of offense, where its almost predictable, will be able on a short week to be prepared for this type of high potent offense. Advantage Hawaii.

LAS VEGAS >> You can call this "Elaine and Pam's Excellent Adventure."

Well, maybe "Pretty Good Adventure," after the vacation of Hilo women Elaine Kai and Pam Carter got off to a rocky start Saturday with the University of Hawaii's 61-32 loss to Southern California at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

Or "So-so Adventure," since the slot machines haven't been kind to them since their arrival here Tuesday. "I'm just feeding them," Carter said.

But the travel buddies remain undaunted because everything else on their trip, planned around UH's football games at USC and Nevada-Las Vegas, has been close to perfect.

The two are among thousands of Hawaii residents who built vacations around one or both UH football games.

Hey, so what if the Warriors lose? There's still Disneyland, Celine Dion and shopping, at mall after mall.

"The highlight so far is shopping," Kai said. "We've probably gone to every shopping center from L.A. to here. And tonight we see Celine! "We're so limited in Hilo as far as clothing (shops). There are lots of sales here," Kai added.

The state employee also enjoyed Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm.

"My first time," Kai, 58, said. "My kids went, and I think my two grandsons, but never me."

Carter, 60, said UH's loss to USC was a downer, but the experience was not.

"The football game was kind of disappointing, but it was an exciting experience. It was something different you don't see at home," Carter said. "We were in the seventh row. The horse (USC mascot Traveler) kept passing right in front of us."

Kai and Carter have vacationed together since both of their husbands died in recent years. Three weeks ago they decided to go to the UH games.

Many of those who made the trip to Las Vegas for tonight's game got together with Vegas residents with Hawaii ties for a massive pep rally downtown yesterday.

There was live Hawaii entertainment, including a show with Melveen Leed, Don Ho, the Makaha Sons of Niihau and others, and massive amounts of food and drinks.

A tailgate party was scheduled for today at Sam's Town, where the Warriors are staying. Displaced Hawaii folks who live in Las Vegas, and those vacationing from the islands as well as other places on the mainland, will gather to eat kal bi ribs, kalua pig, lomi salmon and rice before heading up Boulder Avenue for the game.

The Krush is scheduled to play, and Cecilio & Kapono will make a "surprise" appearance, according to Mary Marshall, director of entertainment at Sam's Town.

She said UH's loss at USC would not cut into the crowd for either the tailgate or the game.

"People planned to come to this ahead of time," she said.

A crowd of around 30,000 was estimated for the game, with around half of that number cheering for Hawaii.

KKEA-1420's Bobby Curran has been broadcasting his daily sports show from the California Hotel all week with UH radio analyst Robert Kekaula. The Cal, with its aloha-attired staff and local food available 24 hours a day, is the Las Vegas favorite of many Hawaii residents.

"I feel like I'm in Kaimuki," said Curran, who is also UH's play-by-play man for football and basketball.

"What a perfect exacta for Hawaii fans," he added, "Warrior football and Las Vegas."

After the block party, UH President Evan Dobelle was flanked by Don Ho, Carl Hebenstreit (TV's Kini Popo), Hawaiian entertainer Iva Kinimaka and former Washington Redskins player and Kamehameha graduate Karl Lorch at Lillie Langtry's, a Chinese restaurant in the Golden Nugget.

"That was a hell of a block party for the team. That's what I call a pep rally," Ho said. "When you've got Vegas teaming up with Hawaii, that's a great partnership."

Las Vegas resident Demitreus Henderson waited a long time for this game. UH football fans will remember "Doe" Henderson as a defensive back for the Rainbows from 1992 to 1996. He was an assistant coach at Crenshaw High School in Los Angeles before moving to Las Vegas two years ago. Henderson is now a hip-hop musician and producer for the group Dynasty.

He remained optimistic about the Warriors' chances on the field.

"This one should be a cakewalk," said Henderson, who intercepted a pass as a freshman in Hawaii's 55-25 homecoming victory over UNLV in 1992, the year the Rainbows won the Holiday Bowl.

"Best Hawaii team ever," he said.

Henderson said he is looking forward to seeing former teammates Michael Carter and Rodney Glover, among others, at the tailgate and the game today.

"I want to get back into that aloha vibe," Henderson said.

There are some Hawaii expatriates in Las Vegas who are not going to tonight's game.

Kaiser High School graduate Daniel Itakura has lived in Las Vegas since 1991 and is a bartender at the Mirage.

"I work the day of the game and can't go, and I'm not that much of a fan anyway," Itakura, 36, said. "But I'm going to the pep rally downtown. There's going to be a lot of live entertainment, and I'll meet up with some friends."
